This is how it works: hot, dry air in - fresh, cool, moist air out - for your comfor!

Evaporative air (swamp) coolers can be very effective under the right conditions and with proper air management. The cooling is caused by evaporation. Warm dry outside air, with its low relative humidity, is pulled into the unit by a fan, while water is distributed onto some kind of a filter. As the dry air is forced through the wet filter by the fan, the water is evaporated, which cools the air coming out of the cooler (see the efficiency charts below). This cool air must then be allowed to flow freely through the RV or facility being cooled and out through a window, door or vent. If the airflow is restricted, the cooling will be less effective.

The TurboKOOL efficiency, as an RV evaporative air cooler (RV swamp cooler), is affected by many factors: outdoor humidity, ambient temperature, filter condition, insulation, cubic volume of the unit to be cooled and solar exposure to name a few. At 750 cubic feet of air per minute, a TurboKOOL unit would replace 100% of the air in a 20-foot RV each minute.  One of the attractive features of the eco-friendly TurboKOOL, the RV evaporative air cooler/RV swamp cooler, is that it performs with high efficiency while requiring very little power, resulting in fresh, cool, moist air.  The following charts will give you a rough idea of the performance you can expect.

The eco-friendly TurboKOOL has an advanced simple design with only one moving part. It works on the principles of gravity and centrifugal force.  This operation, while requiring very little power, effectively lowers the temperature with fresh, cool, moist air, no matter what the outside temperature is.

  • The eco-friendly TurboKOOL evaporative air cooler/RV swamp cooler requires very little power and uses between 2 and 5 gallons of water per day.
  • Changing or cleaning your filter often will make your cooler function with more efficiency.
  • Shading windshields, windows and roof vents as well as parking in the shade when possible will help a lot.
  • Open windows, doors or vents a few inches to allow the air to escape. Usually the rule of thumb is the total open area should be about equal to or a little less than the ceiling grill area bringing cool air into the RV or building.
  • Do not open doors, windows or vents on the windward side.
  • If your cooler has a float valve, make sure it is set to the proper level.
  • To check airflow at doors, windows and vents hold a tissue at the opening and watch which way the tissue blows.
